FOR PHARMACY TECHNICIANS
NPTA's Pharmacy Technician POC Testing Training Program is designed to rapidly train pharmacy technicians across the U.S. to administer COVID-19 tests, as well as other pharmacy-based POC tests.

This program will provide training and skill assessments on collecting the following types of samples for POC Testing:
 - Nasopharyngeal swabs
 - Nasal (turbinate level) swabs
 - Throat swabs
 - Finger pricks with blood collection loop
 - Oral swabs
How This Course Works
Participants must complete six separate online learning modules (totaling five hours), each comprised of a recorded webinar and a module quiz. A score of 70% or higher is required for each quiz. After completing the self-study modules, participants must complete documented hands-on training and complete skill validations demonstrating proficiency.

Options for Hands-On Training + Validations

Option 1: At your workplace (RECOMMENDED)
Work with a pharmacist certified to give Point of Care Testing? If so, you can have your pharmacist validate your training hours and skill validations on-the-job. We will provide you with all the necessary forms and the instructions for your pharmacist/proctor. For your skill validations, you will be required to administer two injections (of sterile NaCl 0.9%) to your pharmacist/proctor. Training products are not included. They can either be supplied by your pharmacy or you can order a training kit separately.

Option 2: At home
Due to COVID-19, we are temporarily offering an option for students to complete their hands-on training and skill validations at home - using a blend of instructional videos, group video-conference calls with our instructors and one-on-one video-conferencing for skill validations. For your skill validations, you will be required to administer two injections (of sterile NaCl 0.9%) to a friend or family member. Training products are not included. They can either be supplied by your pharmacy or you can order a training kit separately.
